Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams addressed the media at Halas Hall at the outset of the team’s offseason training program. It feels like it was just yesterday when Williams threw that touchdown pass to Cole Kmet to force overtime in a playoff game that the Bears still ultimately lost. I guess time flies when you’re trying to piece together the offseason puzzle.
I’ve rounded up some highlights from Caleb Williams’ press conference and added some commentary for context and depth of coverage. You can also watch a video of the press conference embedded below. In the meantime, check out the highlights.
Caleb Williams calls 2025 a “stepping stone,” then sets clear goals for 2026
This is a good time of year for football players (and their teams) to set goals. And Chicago’s QB1 wastes no time in outlining his vision for the year to come while also reflecting on the year that was in 2025. These Caleb Williams quotes stick with me:
“That was a good stepping stone for me. But that wasn’t the last stepping stone. So being able to grow off of last year and being able to progress in ways that I want to, that last year really wasn’t anything. It was a good year, and we’ve got many good years coming up.”
“It was good for me to be able to see, to be able to feel, to be able to go out there and win games. But that wasn’t my goal. That’s not my goal. That’s not where I want to be. I want to be the best. I want to win. I want to be a world champion, a Super Bowl champion. I want to be the best Bear quarterback, the best quarterback.”
The Bears have had just two quarterbacks (Jim McMahon, Rex Grossman) reach the Super Bowl. Only one (McMahon) has won the big one. Caleb Williams can reach rarified air if he can live up to the lofty expectations he has for himself.
QB1 embraces Ben Johnson’s tough love
There was a trio of quotes from Caleb Williams about his coach that I thought were worth sharing:
“One of the first things we talked about two days after the game was, ‘It’s going to be more. It’s going to be more difficult. I’m going to push you more.’ And my answer [was], ‘Yes sir, let’s do it.’ “I have a goal. He has a goal. And it aligns with each other. It’s making sure we get to that end one. He’s going to push me. I’m going to push myself. I’m going to push my teammates. He’ll push my teammates.” “We’re going to find ways to get better. We’re going to find ways to reach what we want to reach. And that starts with the detail. That starts with the everyday. That starts with week-to-week finding ways to get better.”One of the biggest things we learned in Year 1 of the Ben Johnson era is that the Bears’ head coach is notoriously tough on his players — especially his quarterback. But the way I see it, that is a good thing. Johnson is demanding of players because he wants to see them reach their potential and help the team win games. Sometimes, in life, it helps to have someone willing to ride you hard and push your boundaries for the sake of improvement.
Caleb Williams clearly welcomed Johnson’s hard-charging coaching style. And why wouldn’t he? The end result of his 2025 season included a single-season franchise-record 3,942 passing yards and seven wins in games the team trailed in the final two minutes. Hard work (and hard coaching) pays off.

Random Caleb Williams quotes I found to be interesting…
The latest on the “Iceman” nickname issue and the possibility of meeting NBA legend George Gervin, who can stake a claim to the nickname: “We’ll probably speak, like I said, at some point,” Williams said via the Sun-Times. “Haven’t spoken yet. Have been running around, been busy. . . . We’ll figure it out here soon.”MORE: A Deep Dive Into the Iceman Nickname and Caleb Williams’ Stake to Claim It as His
On his workouts with teammates: “Having a young core is fun because you get to have that aspect of growing together and your bond and how tight-knit you are, that grows,” Williams said. “I was just with them in California at my old school, just working out, laughing, joking, going to dinner, having them over at the house. Those moments … it’s not fake. We’re all hanging out, we’re all laughing. And then we get on the football field, it’s time to work also.” Caleb Williams on the DJ Moore trade: “DJ is a pro. He’s been that since he’s been in the league. On the football side of it, obviously, you’re going to miss him out there making plays. But on the other side of the football side, you do understand there’s a business side to it, and you’ve got to roll with the punches. I don’t have that choice. From there, you understand it. On my side, personal side, I’ll miss the guy.”SUBSCRIBE TO THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
What it’s like to thrive under pressure: “I’ve always expected this because I wanted to be here,” Williams said (h/t Pro Football Talk). “This is where I wanted to be. I’ve wanted to be in this position. I’ve always said if winning games and championships come with a little bit more light, then so be it. We’re going to keep chugging along. I have goals in mind and what I want to reach myself. It mainly deals with winning.”
