From teen idol to zaddy. Actor Joey Lawrence recently announced that he’s now a boy dad (with wife Samantha Cope) in a sweet after-Easter Instagram post. The former Blossom star welcomed son Ford Joseph Lawrence on April 6. But it looks like the newborn isn’t the only Lawrence with an April birthday.
Joey turned the big 50 on April 20 and marked his half-century birthday with a shirtless Instagram post that gives ‘dad bod’ a whole new meaning. The black-and-white pics…well, have fans screaming, “Whoa!”
Lawrence captioned the carousel, which starts with a hunky runway shot, “Walking my way into 50.” Friends, fans, and even some family members are obsessed with the post—and for a very obvious reason. The Melissa & Joey star’s wife even commented, writing, “Well hello,” to which one commenter responded, “We were all thinking that.”
Other comments praised the Dancing with the Stars alum’s youthful look and, um, toned physique, with raves such as, “You might be turning 50, but you look 30, “And looking mighty fine,” and “Ripped, hard chizzled muscle.” Some fans got nostalgic, with one writing, “Wow! Or should I say Whoa! I can’t believe my 90s crush is 50 today!”
And yeah, it’s been a few years since Lawrence was a teen idol. So what’s the former child actor up to now (other than being our favorite zaddy, of course)? Lawrence is still in the spotlight. He hosts the Brotherly Love podcast alongside his IRL brothers Matthew and Andrew Lawrence and is set to co-star in the new movie, The Heart Break, with iconic actress Beverly D’Angelo.
The 50-year-old is also busy, playing the very important role of father. The doting dad now has four children, ranging in age from newborn to 20. His eldest daughter (with ex-wife Chandie Yawn-Nelson), Charleston “Charli” Lawrence, was born in 2006. The family welcomed Charleston’s little sis, Liberty Grace (whom he also shares with his ex), in 2010. Lawrence and Yawn-Nelson split in 2020. He later remarried, tying the knot with his current wife, Samantha Cope, in 2022.
In 2023, the couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Dylan Rose Lawrence. Cope filed for divorce in 2024. But she and Lawrence later reconciled. The pair announced the birth of their second child, Ford, earlier this month.
While fans relish in the shirtless pics, they can also enjoy another birthday surprise. The actor posted a nostalgic bday throwback to the ‘80s (even though he was born in the ‘70s), sharing a Miami Vice-themed clip featuring himself as Crockett and his brothers as Tubbs and a “Guest Star.” Lawrence captioned the video, “Thanks for the best opening titles a big bro could ask for to head into the next decade of my life. Love you guys.” Aww!
