There were four Stanley Cup Playoff games last night, but I don’t think I’m being too selfish when I say the one most Blackhawks fans were interested in was the Ducks at Oilers in the late game. Between Joel Quenneville calling the shots for Anaheim and three recent former Blackhawks in the lineup for Edmonton, all sorts of storylines going on in Game One of that series.
JASON DICKINSON TIES THE GAME!!! #StanleyCupIt's 3-3 in Edmonton! : @espn 2: @Sportsnet & @TVASports pic.twitter.com/guPWmwbbX4
And who stole the show? Jason Dickinson. He only skated 12 minutes and won 4 of 10 faceoffs. But he was credited with one hit, two blocked shots and scored two of the Oilers’ four goals. After the Ducks scored three unanswered in the second period, Dickinson’s goal in the middle of the third to tie the game almost took the roof off Rogers Place. It was awesome.
First game all season Oilers win where McDavid didn’t get a point (0-12-2 beforehand)
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) April 21, 2026 Dickinson had three multi-goal games in 266 appearances for the Blackhawks. For a guy who was so great to talk to and work with while he was in Chicago, I’m thrilled that he — and Connor Murphy and Colton Dach — are getting their shot in the playoffs. In the early game that kept going until it became a late game, Jordan Martinook scored at 13:53 into the second overtime to give Carolina a 3-2 win over Ottawa. Jake Sanderson skated a Duncan Keith-esque 43:06 in the game. Thomas Chabot was also over 40 minutes for Ottawa. Carolina now heads to Ottawa with a 2-0 series lead. After getting their doors blown off at home by the Wild in Game One, the Stars bounced back and evened the series in a really physical game last night. That series is living up to the hype so far. The fourth game last night saw the Flyers take a 2-0 series lead on the Penguins. Janik Beichler, Dir. of European Scouting at EliteProspects, put together a list of 2026 NHL Draft prospects to watch at the upcoming U18 World Championship. A couple guys who might interest the Blackhawks in the third round are forward Vilho Vanhatalo (Finland) and Šimon Katolický (Czechia). Steven Ellis at Daily Faceoff wrote about five prospects who could boost stock at the upcoming U18 World Championship. He also wrote about Katolický. One other name he mentions that intrigues me more as a middle-round option for the Blackhawks is Jean-Cristoph Lemieux. He spent some time with AJ Spellacy at Windsor before he was traded to Sudbury this past season. Here’s the part that caught my attention:Lemieux plays with speed, and he’s a relentless forechecker. He’s not going to be a point-producer in the NHL, but he has the potential to be a legitimately dangerous bottom-six forward who can kill penalties. As a two-way force, there’s a lot to like – but a bit of offense in Slovakia over the next few weeks wouldn’t hurt, either.
Is anyone still hungover in Buffalo today? I’m betting a strong yes. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported former New Jersey Devils President and GM Tom Fitzgerald is on the list of candidates for the Nashville Predators’ general manager opening. He also included Dallas Stars Assistant GM Scott White, former Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and Boston Bruins Assistant GM Jamie Langenbrunner on the list of candidates in Nashville. Adding to Pagnotta’s reporting, Frank Seravalli shared that Edmonton Oilers Assistant GM Bill Scott, Florida Panthers Assistant GM Brett Peterson and Scott White have already had in-person interviews with Nashville. Seravalli also included a note that new Preds minority owner Nick Saban “has sat in and provided feedback on interviews.” Finally, Seravalli reports the Maple Leafs are narrowing down their list for a new general manager.Sources say two of the 'finalists' advancing in the Maple Leafs GM search this week are #NHLBruins assistant GM Evan Gold and #NYR assistant GM Ryan Martin. There is likely a third (or more?) candidate to meet with the team for a second in-person interview this week.
