2026 ROTTERDAM QUALIFICATION MEET
Friday, April 17th – Sunday, April 19th Rotterdam Swimming Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands LCM (50m) Meet Central Live Results LivestreamThe 2026 Rotterdam Qualification Meet kicked off this weekend in the Netherlands with several of the nation’s record holders welcoming swimmers from Belgium, Germany and beyond.
Although not a selection meet for the European Championships, it is a qualifying competition for the younger set striving to make the grade for this year’s European Junior Championships slated for July 7th through July 12th in Munich, Germany. The Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB) selection standards for that competition are displayed at the bottom of this post.
21-year-old Milou van Wijk did some damage in the women’s 100m freestyle, with the speedster registering a winning effort of 54.45.
Opening in 26.23 and closing in 28.22, van Wijk represented one of two sub-55-second performers, with Imani de Jong joining her under the barrier in 54.95.
Yara van Kalmthout rounded out the podium in a solid swim of 55.29.
Van Wijk has been as swift as 52.91 in her career, a time she put up to place 4th at the 2025 World Championships to become her nation’s 4th-best performer of all time in the event.
Olympian Thomas Verhoeven was also in the water, trying the men’s 50m butterfly on for size.
The 29-year-old veteran found success in a time of 23.82 to get to the wall first, relegating Kenzo Simons and Kaan Sudak to the minor medal positions.
Simons touched in 24.14 and Sudak was over half a second behind in 24.67.
Verhoeven’s time nearly checked in as a season-best, falling just shy of the 23.73 he established at the Luxembourg Euro Meet in January.
The women’s edition of the 50m fly saw Maaike de Waard get it done for gold, producing an outing of 25.93. That result sits just outside the list of the top ten performances of her career, one which boasts a PB of 25.62 from when she became the 2022 European Championsips bronze medalist.
Jinth Engelse secured silver in the final in 26.72, with Elise Tanis also landing on the podium in 27.31 as the bronze medalist.
National record holder Koen de Groot hit a time of 27.65 to reap gold in the men’s 50m breaststroke.
That was well outside his Dutch standard of 26.71 logged at last year’s World Championships but enough to get the job done here.
Jason van den Berg hit a mark of 27.90 as the only other sub-28-second performer, with Luca Janssen touching in 28.25 for a 3rd-place finish.
Finally, the men’s 200m IM saw a pair of Germans reach the top two podium spots, with Finn Hammer and Cedric Buessing making it a 1-2 punch.
The race was on the modest side, with no competitor clearing the 2:00 barrier. Hammer did earn gold in 2:01.35 with teammate Buessing just over a second back in 2:02.67 as the runner-up.
Carl Morris earned bronze in a time of 2:06.48.
