Minnesota high school state finalist Eli Holmes has announced his commitment to swim for the University of Indianapolis beginning in the fall of 2026. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Indianapolis. I would like to thank all my family and everyone above that helped me on this big moment. Holmes is a senior at Century High School in Rochester, where he competed for the varsity swimming and diving team all four years. He also currently swims year-round with Rochester Swim Club and excels sprint freestyle and breaststroke.
Holmes wrapped up his high school career at this past February’s Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Boys Class AA State Championships, where he earned bronze in the 50 free (20.53) and placed sixth in the 100 free (45.45), both lifetime bests. He also helped Century to fourth-place finishes in the 200 medley and 200 free relays, splitting a pair of 20.6s.
As a junior, Holmes placed third in the 100 breast (57.22), which remains his lifetime best, and seventh in the 100 free (46.45) in his first appearance in individual events at the state meet.
He made massive strides in the sprint free events this year, particularly in the 50, after entering the season with bests of 21.48 and his 46.45 from State.
Beyond the sprints, Holmes owns a 200 breast best of 2:06.07 from a local club meet in November. It hasn’t been a primary focus, but he’s dropped nearly six seconds over the past two seasons and could make it a bigger part of his lineup in college.

50 Freestyle: 20.53 100 Freestyle: 45.45 100 Breaststroke: 57.22 200 Breaststroke: 2:06.07A Division II program competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, UIndy’s men’s team claimed their sixth conference championship title this past February before going on to finish fourth at the NCAA Championships.
Based on the results from the conference meet, Holmes would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 50 free and the ‘C’ finals in the 100 free, 100 breast, and 200 breast, putting him in a position to be a key contributor right from the start.
On the team itself, Holmes is poised to rank seventh in the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 breast, as well as eighth in the 100 breast, bringing some added depth to the roster.
UIndy regularly produces multiple A-finalists in all of his primary events at the conference meet, and is home to the Division II record holder and reigning NCAA champion in both breaststroke events, Jeremias Pock (51.58/1:51.12). With nine swimmers under 21 seconds in the 50 free and six under 45 in the 100 free during the 2025–26 season, he’ll have no shortage of high-level training partners for all of his events.
Holmes joins Grayson Pudleiner, a breaststroker who owns similar PBs of 56.08/2:06.31, as the only publicized commits in the Greyhounds’ class of 2030.
