Metra passengers on the Electric Line will see some service impacts on several weekends this spring, the agency says.
According to officials, work to expand service on the NICTD’s South Shore Line will impact operations near the downtown area beginning on Sunday, April 26.
On three different weekends in coming months, service on the Electric Line will originate and terminate at the 18th Street station, meaning Millennium Station, Van Buren Street and Museum Campus/11th Street will be closed for operations on those weekends.
The first date of that work will be April 26, with closures also expected on the weekends of May 1-2 and June 13-14, officials said.
On those weekends, passengers will be able to take shuttle buses from 18th Street to Millennium Station, but those buses will not stop at either Museum Campus or Van Buren Street.
In addition to the station closures, Sunday schedules will be in effect on Saturday, May 1 and Saturday, June 13, meaning reduced service on the Electric Line.
South Shore Line trains will also originate at 18th Street and will operate their normal weekend schedules, officials said.
The closures and service disruptions are part of the $650 million project to expand service on the South Shore service, with workers making improvements to the wiring system that provides power to trains and realigning track during the closures in coming weeks, according to officials.
