Day 82 of the Chicago Bears offseason. After attending a dud of a Cubs game, I ordered a Lou Malnati’s pizza with the hopes that it would make me feel better. As it turns out, that is exactly what it did. I’m so ready to attack the weekend!

At first blush, I like the first two picks. Warren’s profile and upside intrigue me. Jacas has an ideal frame for edge rushers who thrive in Defensive Coordiantor Dennis Allen’s system and has drawn some comparisons to Trey Hendrickson. In theory, I like that the Bears picked a wide receiver and a defensive tackle with the other two picks. However, those aren’t necessarily the selections I’d make. Branch brings potential special teams ability as a return ace, but has a limited route tree at this point of his football career. Durant (6-1, 290 pounds, 31 7/8-inch arms) is undersized by traditional DT metrics, but that didn’t hold him back in the Big Ten, where he earned honorable mention all-conference honors in each of the last two seasons. For what it’s worth, it does have the Bears taking Toledo safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren — a sensible pick in my book. However, it did not have Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey or Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate as first-round picks. Both of those guys will certainly be top-10 selections. If the Bears passed on Bailey (or even Tate) at pick No. 25 because of artificial intelligence, I’d rage so hard online that you could hear the rage typing from the comfort of your home. Perhaps we should use this as a reminder that not everything needs to be automated or handed to the robots. One of the wildest endings you’ll see to a football game came on Friday night as a UFL battle between the Orlando Storm and Louisville Kings ended with an Orlando victory via penalties. This is madness:ORLANDO WINS IT ON A PENALTY IN OVERTIME ‼️Dean Blandino is in the Command Center with more ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/IoorGOuY04
— United Football League (@TheUFL) April 11, 2026 An explanation from football rules analyst Dean Blandino (via Awful Announcing): “We wanted to make sure we had a winner and we got the game over with. We didn’t fouls to continue… we didn’t want the team to continue to foul to prevent scores, so the second live ball foul by the same team during overtime results in a good try. And that’s the rule.” Orlando Storm defensive back Lamar Jackson (5 games for the Bears in 2022), as well as Louisville Storm defensive tackle Travis Bell (2023 Bears seventh-round pick) and running back Ian Wheeler (remember him from Hard Knocks?) are former Bears players who appear on the UFL rosters in the game mentioned above. Marc Colombo, who was the Bears’ first-round pick (29th overall) in the 2002 NFL Draft, is Orlando’s co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach. Chicago Bears running back Ian Wheeler (33) runs against the Buffalo Bills during the second half of a preseason game at Soldier Field. Moore, 30, is in the final year of his contract and is coming off a season in which he played 14 games, but appeared on just 76 percent of the unit’s snaps. The Valdosta State product was a Pro Bowler for the Colts in 2021 on a defense that had Matt Eberflus as its defensive coordinator. That coaching staff also featured Press Taylor as a senior offensive assistant. Taylor is now the Bears’ offensive coordinator.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
Bryan DeArdo (CBS Sports) gives the Green Bay Packers a C-minus grade for their trade that sent Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles. This is a confusing move for Green Bay, given its question marks at the skill positions. “Yes, the Packers are deep at receiver and tight end,” DeArdo writes. “but their talent at both positions is still somewhat unproven, especially at wideout.” On the other side of the coin, the Eagles get a B-plus grade for getting a useful receiver for a relatively small cost. PageSix reports the New York Times is doing a deeper investigation into the situation with The Athletic’s NFL insider Dianna Russini and New England Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel. The NFL offseason is wild enough with trade whispers, comings-and-goings in free agency, and mock draft madness, so it did not need a reporter’s ties to a head coach (whose team just went to the Super Bowl) to spice things up. But here we are. A rare story that could find its way into BN Bears or Cubs Bullets: MLB’s Colorado Rockies are bringing in Denver Broncos owners into the fold with a minority investment that is reportedly an estimated 40 percent share of the team. Maybe the football success will rub off on the baseball side because the Rox have been down bad for a hot minute. And yet, the Coors Field experience is a top-5 baseball trip I’ve taken. Perhaps there is a sleeping giant out in the Rocky Mountains.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
