Donald Trump’s once-unshakeable support is unravelling fast as formerly die-hard Maga voices express increasing outrage over his handling of the Iran war, with open calls to remove him from office.
The President lashed out on Thursday at four previously pro-Trump political commentators after they voiced outrage at his rhetoric regarding the war, which has divided his base since he launched the attacks alongside Israel on 28 February.
While some Maga supporters have celebrated his actions in Iran, others have condemned them for betraying his “America First” foreign policy.
However, those divisions widened in the past week following Trump’s increasingly bellicose rhetoric that culminated in a threat to end Iranian civilisation, which shocked many of his longtime supporters.
Prominent Maga names speaking out against his threats include the podcast host and former Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson, far-right influencer Candace Owens, former Fox News presenter Megyn Kelly, and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
In a rambling Truth Social rant on Thursday, the US President labelled the four commentators “Low IQ,” “stupid people” and “NUT JOBS, TROUBLEMAKERS, and will say anything necessary for some ‘free’ and cheap publicity”.
“They’re not ‘Maga,’” Trump wrote. “They’re losers, just trying to latch on to Maga.”

But with voters expressing their dissatisfaction over his unpopular war, the economic fallout showing no sign of dissipating, and the mid-term elections – which could flip at least the House to the Democrats – looming ever closer, his administration will be increasingly concerned about influential voices turning against him.
The Maga mutineers
Carlson has been an outspoken opponent of the war since Trump started it.
Trump lambasted Carlson as a “Hand Flailing Fool… who couldn’t even finish College,” said “he was a broken man when he got fired from Fox, and he’s never been the same” and suggested he should see a psychiatrist.
Carlson was dismissed by Fox News because he “got too big for his boots”, demeaned women and minorities and alienated huge numbers of people in the company, according to a book about his downfall by Brian Stelter.
Carlson this week called Trump’s threats “evil,” after the President declared Iran would be “living in Hell” if it did not open the Strait of Hormuz in an expletive-laden post on Easter Sunday.
