Madonnas Long-Awaited Biopic Will Finally Get Screen Time, Just Not the Way We Thought

The on-again, off-again Madonna biopic about her life finally might be gaining some momentum. It's just not in the way we thought it would. As previously reported, Madonna is joining the acclaimed, Emmy-award-winning TV series The Studio. The storyline, however, will center on a fictional take of the singer's real-life struggle to get the story of her iconic life produced.

We had wondered why Julie Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna), the actress who's slated to play the Queen of Pop in her biopic, was recently accompanying Madonna on the "Like a Virgin" music video set (aka, the canals of Venice, Italy). But finally, it was revealed that both Madonna and Garner were set to star in Season 2 of Seth Rogan‘s Apple TV show The Studio, which was filming there.

Still, though, the coincidence of Madonna and the actress who's reported to be locked in to play her hanging out together seemed strange.

Well, now it's been revealed Madonna and Garner will appear in a two-episode storyline. Madonna will play herself, and Garner will play the actress playing Madonna. Ah, life becomes art!

According to Variety's sources, here's how the story will shake out in the episodes:

"The Studio scripts will rewrite history, subbing in Rogen’s fictional company Continental Studios as the producer-financier of the Madonna-Garner movie that never was. The core Continental team—played by Rogen, Kathryn Hahn, Bryan Cranston, Ike Barinholtz and Chase Sui Wonders—takes the biopic to Italy for a splashy debut at the Venice Film Festival, where Madonna and Garner are on hand to hype the project and nab some Oscar buzz."

Side note: Actor and filmmaker Donald Glover was also photographed on the set with Madonna and Garner. Could he be playing the director of the fictional biopic?

No word so far if the script contains any truth from Madonna's actual ongoing struggle to get her biopic made. However, maybe the TV show can drum up enough hype to actually get the much-anticipated biography made for once and for all.

For now, we wait. The Studio Season 2 is in production with a likely release date in late 2026.
