Sara Brewer of Hillsborough won a $215,051 jackpot off a $1 Cash 5 lottery ticket. Brewer bought the lucky ticket online for the lottery’s March 31 drawing. The odds of winning the jackpot were 1 in 962,598.
Brewer claimed her prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $156,109.
Cash 5 is one of a number of lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying tickets either in person at a retail location or via Online Play through the lottery’s website or its official app. The North Carolina Education Lottery says Thursday’s jackpot is currently set at $110,000.
The lottery says used more than $8.2 million to support education programs in Orange County last year.
