The State Security Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced Muslim Brotherhood leader Mahmoud Ezzat and 36 others to life imprisonment.
It also sentenced 27 others to 15 years imprisonment, six defendants to 10 years, and three to five years.
One defendant received a three-year sentence with an additional three years of probation.
The court sentenced two defendants to one year in prison, suspended for three years, with one year of probation. One defendant was acquitted.
The court ordered Ezzat and 28 others to pay LE7,054,734,104 to the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority as compensation, and that Ezzat and 44 others be placed under probation for five years after serving their sentences.
The court further prohibited the convicted defendant, Ibrahim Ali Azzam, from residing in any of the country’s border governorates for five years after serving his sentence.
It also dismissed the criminal case against the defendants Ibrahim Munir and Mahmoud Mohamed due to their deaths.
The court ordered listing Ezzat and 73 members of the Muslim Brotherhood, the so-called parallel Egyptian parliament, the Egyptian Revolutionary Council, the Alliance to Support Legitimacy, the Egyptian Solidarity Association (Rabaa), and the satellite channels Mekameleen, al-Thawra, al-Sharq, and Watan on the lists of terrorist entities and individuals.
It also ordered the closure of the satellite channels’ headquarters and their offices inside and outside the country – accusing them of espionage for a foreign state, working for a terrorist group outside Egypt, conspiring to finance members of the organization, and exchanging information concerning national security.
