Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing more than two months after being abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and a retired FBI agent just sent a bold message to the alleged ransom note writer after a new letter emerged.
On Monday, April 6, TMZ reported that it received a new correspondence from a person alleging that Nancy "is dead." However, the alleged ransom note writer also claimed to have information on the location of the 84-year-old's body.

"I saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora, Mexico," they alleged in the note. TMZ reported that the letter was from the same person who sent notes to the outlet back in February.
The person is allegedly still demanding 1 Bitcoin for information. This time, though, they asked for half before the information is shared and half after a public arrest.

After the news broke on Monday, retired FBI special agent Jennifer Coffindaffertook to X with her blunt reaction to the development—which happened on the same day that Savannah returned to Today as a co-anchor for the first time since her mom went missing.
"@TMZLive just got another ransom note today," she wrote in the update. "The person says they have her body and want only a half of a Bitcoin for information leading to where Nancy is buried. $34, 842.12 USD.
Coffindaffer boldly added, "What a pathetic Whacko torturing Savannah after her return to the @TODAYshow. If this was your mom would you risk paying if you were a multimillionaire?"

— Jennifer Coffindaffer (@CoffindafferFBI) April 6, 2026In the comments, X users following the case weighed in on the situation. One wrote, "TMZ should be keeping their damn mouths shut. It's like they are enjoying this. Should just be handed over to LE, they don't need to tell the public."
Another speculated, "Savannah and her people are smart. She will not pay a dime without some kind of proof. Some people are disgusting. I'm sure it's a scam."
Someone else commented, "If you knew something, it’s pathetic you demand a reward to help this already brokenhearted family."
Nancy was last seen at her Tucson residence on the evening of Jan. 31. The Pima County Sheriff's Department launched its search on Feb. 1, with the FBI joining the investigation not long afterward. As of writing, no suspect has been named despite Savannah offering a $1 million reward for information leading to her mother's recovery.
