Todd Meadows' family is reportedly filing a wrongful death lawsuit.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the family is trying to open Meadows' probate estate and is looking to hold someone legally responsibly for his death.
Meadows died at the age of 25 while filming Deadliest Catch in February. He fell overboard while crabbing on the Aleutian Lady fishing boat in the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska, and his cause of death was later confirmed to be "drowning with probable hypothermia" and "submersion of body in cold water."
It's unclear who will be named as a defendant in the forthcoming lawsuit, however, the Deadliest Catch cameras were rolling at the time of Meadows' accident. The family has previously told TMZ that they do not want Discovery Channel to air any footage of the incident.
"We don’t want to put the blame on anyone, but someone has to take responsibility," Todd's mother Angela Meadows told the outlet. "We will have justice for Todd."

The news of Meadows’ death was first announced by his Deadliest Catch co-star Capt. Rick Shelford via Instagram on Mar. 2.
“February 25, 2026 was the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea,” Shelford wrote. “We lost our brother, Todd Meadows. Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family. His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away. His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always.”
“Todd’s love for his children, his family, and his life was evident in everything he did,” he continued. “He worked hard, loved deeply, and brought joy to those around him. Right now, our hearts are broken in a way that words can’t fully express. We ask that you lift Todd’s children and family in prayer and keep them in your thoughts as they face the days ahead without him.”
He concluded, “Todd will forever be part of this boat, this crew, and this brotherhood. Though we lost him far too soon, his legacy will live on through his children and in every memory we carry of him. Rest easy brother, till we meet again.”
Meadows is survived by his wife and three children. The Coast Guard's investigation into his death is ongoing.
