UNC Focusing On Billy Donovan, Benny ‘the Villain’ Bull, NCAA Title Game, and Other Bulls Bullets

Just four games to go, Bulls fans—just four.

After another double-digit loss last night, Chicago now sits two games ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks in the lottery odds, with virtually no time left to make up ground. While it may be too little, too late to catch the teams ahead of them, there’s still a universe where Chicago goes 0–4, the resurging Dallas Mavericks go 4–0, and they swap positions at the buzzer. It’s a long shot, but it’s still mathematically alive.

    Let’s talk Bulls basketball.

© Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images In last night’s loss to the Suns, Leonard Miller made the most of his starting opportunity. A 17-point double-double, shooting 50% from the field and 40% from three. While his effort got lost in the loss, I think it’s fair to reward that consistency, pull out the sword and officially knight him into the “young core of the future” alongside Matas Buzelis, Josh Giddey, and Noa Essengue*. The next question is: who’s next to crack that inner circle? Right now, Rob Dillingham is really the only one who fits the age timeline, but Chicago should be looking to draft someone who can slide right in, sign a piece to support that group, and make the right trades with the few valuable assets they have. Every time I think about this offseason, I can’t stress enough how big of an opportunity it is for Chicago to turn things around. They just need the right people making those decisions. What did come out of last night was the absolutely hilarious pre-game interaction between Benny the Bull and Dillon Brooks. It started with an intense staring contest, Benny and Brooks locked in, mean mugging from opposite sides of the court. That clip ended up racking up millions of views. Then the Suns followed it up with a pre-game video of Benny facing Dillon in a game of foosball… which Benny lost, an elite little add-on to the storytelling in this short-lived beef between the two.

    — Phoenix Suns (@Suns) April 5, 2026 Chicago also has a chance to snap their 7-game skid, though I wouldn’t advise it, in their next game against the Washington Wizards. Just because their record is worse than ours doesn’t make this a walk in the park, especially after what happened against the Indiana Pacers. Both teams are coming in on 6+ game losing streaks, and one of them has to win.Hoping it’s not the Bulls.

    — Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) April 5, 2026 Staying on the topic of the people in charge, Billy Donovan isn’t just on the radar for the UNC Tar Heels anymore—now, with their other options off the market, they’re reportedly solely focused on him.

According to Jeff Goodman: “North Carolina is now solely focusing its efforts on Billy Donovan. They’re going to go hard after him, per sources. They expect to know more in the next 24 hours.”

Now that’s the interesting part. Not the rumor itself, that’s been floating around for weeks, but the 24-hour timeline. Waiting until mid-April for Donovan is something UNC would probably be fine with, but the transfer portal opens next week. Can they really afford to sit and wait for an NBA coach who may or may not leave, especially one who just signed an extension last offseason? The 24-hour window doesn’t mean Billy is gone before the season ends, but if there’s even a strong indication he’s interested, that adds another major item to the Bulls’ already crucial offseason checklist. And that would be finding a head coach who specializes in development and rebuilds to lead the next era of Bulls basketball.

    — The Field of 68 (@TheFieldOf68) April 5, 2026 Whilst there won’t be any Bulls basketball today, thank God for that, there is a huge game tipping off tonight: the national championship between UConn and Michigan. Not only is it the final game of the college basketball season, but there are a couple of players on both sides who could very well be wearing Bulls gear next season. This isn’t just a game to keep an eye on, it’s one to clear your schedule for. Because this one feels like it’s going to go one of two ways: either a complete blowout, or an absolute nail-biter. Nothing in between.
