Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing more than two months after the abduction from her Tucson, Ariz.—and new details have emerged about the desert surrounding the 84-year-old's home.
On the April 3 episode of Brian Entin Investigates, the NewsNation senior national correspondent spoke with retired Pima County SWAT commander Bob Krieger about the investigation.

"Tucson is surrounded by mountains in each direction. And once you get on, essentially, the back side of any of those, that's where the remoteness starts," Krieger explained.
"The biggest area, geographically, is going out to the west," he continued. "And out there is where we encounter a lot of activity from, you know, smuggling of all sorts — whether it be humans or drugs. things like that, to violent crimes, to, you know, body disposals."
Krieger went on to say that although "a lot of bodies" are found in the desert year-round, the number typically increases during the summer months "when people are crossing and they don't know what to expect of the hot deserts."

Additionally, he said of the desert near Nancy's home, "There's just a ton of stuff going on out there, and it's just so vast. And a lot of times, you know, you just can't find what you're looking for, even if you have very specific locations."
The former SWAT commander also pointed out, "Some of the roads when I used to work out here, they were like super highways for criminal activity. This little track here will take you 100 miles south and get you to Mexico if you want."
Krieger's insight into the area surrounding Savanah's missing mom's home came on the heels of the two-month mark since she went missing on Feb. 1. It also comes ahead of Savannah's return to her Today co-hosting duties for the first time since Nancy's disappearance.
The 84-year-old was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on the evening of Jan. 31. Despite Savannah's $1 million reward offer, no suspect has been named in the case.
