ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An artist showcased her gallery illustrating her experiences while walking the streets of Rochester with the Homeless Outreach Team, a group of professionals who provide aid and services to people in the community.
A group of people viewed the “Joy Gallery” exhibit on Saturday. Patrice McPeak said the theme of working with people experiencing homelessness started when she lived in Washington D.C. and would take the subway to work. She would take time to speak with them, give money, and learn their names.
“We became really kind of acquainted with each other, and after a couple months of finding out where they’re from and why they’re homeless, I asked if I could take their photographs so I can paint them. Most of them said yes,” McPeak said.
McPeak volunteers with the Homeless Outreach Team every week and tells the stories of the people she meets through her art.
