Around 2:30 p.m., reports of smoke rising from a fire in a building near the 1300 block of South 1st Avenue in Maywood surfaced on social media.
Maywood Mayor Nathaniel George Booker said authorities were responding to a fire at a pallet company where crates and rubber are stored.
Video posted to social media showed a large emergency response in the area from several fire departments, with at one point at least three ladders extended as firefighters sprayed the fire with hoses.
Large flames could be seen rising from the building in videos posted to social media.
