ROCHESTER, N.Y. — News10NBC’s Yellow Alert continues on Wednesday morning as the Rochester region deals with localized flooding, following heavy rain on Tuesday.
The severe storms have moved out, but watch out for flooded roads and creeks during your morning commute. News10NBC’s photojournalist saw a car slipping as it drove into a flooded underpass on St. Paul Street in the city.
We also saw flooding on Ridgeway Avenue in Greece, seeping into backyards, and two cars stuck in floodwater on Elmgrove Road in Gates.
Emergency crews have been out all night, responding to flood-related concerns. As a reminder, it’s never safe to drive or walk into flooded water. The National Weather Service says just six inches of moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars, and just two feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks.
Where are flood warnings up?
There are several flood warnings up across the Rochester region. On Monroe County’s east side, there’s a flood warning up through 7 p.m. on Wednesday. For parts of the Finger Lakes area, it’s up through 8 p.m.
For Monroe County’s west side, along with parts of Genesee County, warnings are posted through Thursday morning. Here’s the map of flood warnings:
