2026 Maine Principal’s Association Class A Swimming and Diving Championships
March 7, 2026 Waterville, ME SCY (25 yards) ResultsIt was a repeat for the Falmouth boys and some redemption for the Falmouth girls at the 2026 Maine Principal’s Association Class A Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Falmouth boys defended their title from last year, finishing 79 points ahead of Thornton Academy.
After finishing as runner-up the last two seasons, the Falmouth girls climbed to the top of the podium this time, claiming the title by 49 points over runner-up Gardiner/Hall-Dale.

Falmouth topped the team standings despite winning just one event, and that was the 200 free relay.
The team of Emily Chace (24.85), Vanessa Napolitano (26.57), Calla Heymeyer (25.88) and Kate Gorsuch (24.41) won in a time of 1:41.71.
Chace (50 free) and Gorsuch (100 free) each added 2nd-place finishes individually for Falmouth.
There were three multi-event winners:, Brunswick junior Layla Hammer, Thornton Academy junior Mackenzie Shields and Edward Little-Leavitt Area junior Gabrielle Roy. All three registered double-repeats.
Hammer defended her titles in both the 100 free (personal best 53.17) and the 100 back (57.49).
She was also a part of two winning relay teams, first leading off the 200 medley relay in 26.66 to help Brunswick win the event in a time of 1:49.38.
Other team members were Olivia Colaluca on breast (31.22), Remy Cook on fly (26.54) and Yuiza Rodriguez on free (24.96).
Hammer anchored Brunswick in the 400 free relay, splitting 54.16 to help her team win with a time of 3:41.23. Other team members were Rodriguez (56.30), Cook (56.19) and Colaluca (54.58).
Shields and Roy also collected double-repeats. Shields once again claimed the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:55.20 and the 500 free in a time of 5:07.04.
Roy, a Springfield College commit, won the 50 free in a time of 24.38 and the 100 fly in a time of 58.40. Both were personal best times.
Other individual winners were:
Gorham senior Hanna Logan won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:09.01. Cheverus senior Kate Prestes captured the 1-meter diving event with 376.15 points. Falmouth was led by sophomore Carter VerLee, who won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams.
VerLee repeated as champion in the 200 free with a personal best time of 1:42.95, and then won the 100 free in a time of 47.33, beating out defending champion Andy Marvin of Deering-Portland (47.85) after finishing 2nd to Marvin last year.
VerLee was on the third leg of Falmouth’s team in the 200 free relay that won in a time of 1:31.59. Other team members were Malcolm Sprague, Sam Sprague and Boi Boi Nguyen.
In the 400 free relay, VerLee anchored in 47.09 for a team that won in 3:24.26. S. Sprague (54.23), Ben Zaslavsky (54.69) and M. Sprague (48.25) comprised the rest of the team.
The other multi-event winner was Messalonskee freshman Caden LaPlante, who claimed the 100 fly in a personal best time of 48.81 and the 100 breast in a time of 1:03.82.
Other event winners were:
Messaloneskee won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.44 behind the team of Joseph Branaugh (27.22), Ian Lane (30.40), LaPlante (21.90) and Noah Nelsen (24.92). Gardiner/Hall-Dale sophomore Eli Burnham claimed the 200 IM in a time of 1:57.52. Marvin, a senior who has committed to Trinity College, won the 50 free in a time of 22.05. South Portland freshman Edward Lolar captured the 1-meter diving event with 262.15 points. Windham junior Sullivan Scharf claimed the 500 free in a time of 4:54.84. M. Sprague, a senior for Falmouth, won the 100 back in a personal best time of 52.29.Boys’ Team Standings — Top 5
