Another very warm day inland with afternoon highs reaching well in to the 80's. A very shallow coastal marine layer kept much of our local beach communities under light fog with temperatures in the 60's and low 70's. Look for the fog to try and sneak a bit further inland overnight, but the atmosphere is very dry and any widespread fog reaching inland is not expected. For Sunday, the fog will play cat and mouse once again with expected temperatures with the thermal inversion keeping things interesting. Where the inversion weakens or disappears, coastal temperatures could warm a few degrees. For now, we will forecast a repeat of what we saw for our Saturday which was cool to mild beaches and toasty inland.
Looking ahead, our persistent and at times historic warm spell is showing signs of weakening significantly as we leave March and head in to April. The offshore or northerly flow will replaced with a more seasonal zonal or westerly flow. Cooler ocean air should start to reach farther inland and temperatures are expected to drop to near normal by very early April. Rain chances have been downgraded, but chances do pop up around Tuesday and Wednesday. Our forecast computer was pretty bullish on seeing some decent measurable rainfall over the past few days. Unfortunately, now our Futurecast is backing down from that and just slight chances pop up, especially in our northern areas. Hopefully we will see something rain wise and even better would be for some Sierra snowfall which helps us all as we head toward Summer.
