We’ve reached the last day of the 2026 Men’s NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships. This morning, we’ll see prelims of the 200 IM, 100 freestyle, 200 butterfly, and 200 backstroke, along with the early heats of the 400 freestyle relay.
Top Seeds:
200 IM: Owen McDonald, Indiana — 1:40.11 100 freestyle: Jere Hribar, LSU — 40.42 200 butterfly: Ilya Kharun, ASU — 1:37.56 200 backstroke: Jonny Marshall, Florida — 1:36.38 400 freestyle relay: ASU — 2:42.15 (*swimming in finals*)Hubert Kos has picked the 200 backstroke over the 200 IM for the final day of competition. There, he’ll take aim at his own NCAA record (1:34.21) as he aims to sweep the backstroke events for the second-straight NCAA Championships. Kos broke his own 100 backstroke NCAA record in yesterday’s prelims before later obliterating it again in the final.
Meanwhile, Kos absence in the 200 IM has made it a wide open race. Two Big Ten swimmers, Owen McDonald and Colin Geer sit atop the psych sheet separated four-hundredths. Four other swimmers come into the day with sub-1:41 seed times, including Maximus Williamson, the newly crowned 200 freestyle NCAA champion. This race also has major implications for the team race; Texas has five men seeded to score including three within the top 8.
The 100 freestyle is the second event of the day. Top seeded Jere Hribar will be looking for revenge after being disqualified for a false start in the 50 freestyle. Directly following him on the psych sheet are five men who swam in that 50 freestyle ‘A’ final: Gui Caribe, Remi Fabiani, Quintin McCarty, Brendan Whitfield, and Josh Liendo. Liendo is sitting as the #6 seed coming into the day (40.94). He’s hunting for another NCAA title in this event–if that comes this evening, he’ll be tied for third-most individual NCAA titles.
The 200 butterfly will feel the absence of the NCAA record holder and defending champion Luca Urlando. However, without him, it’s Arizona State’s Ilya Kharun holding court as the clear favorite in the event. He’s seeded more than a second ahead of Florida State’s Logan Robinson and looks to win his second NCAA title in this race after winning as a freshman in 2024.
