Turning 95 is a rare achievement, and one suburban woman was surprised with a milestone birthday treat at her favorite restaurant: McDonald’s.
When workers at Charmaine Blessman’s favorite restaurant learned about her big day, they decided to make it extra special, and threw her a party at the McDonald’s in Hinsdale.
Blessman was speechless when her daughter escorted her into the building Friday morning.
She was greeted by balloons, decorations and a yellow and white cake with her picture on it.
“I thought, ‘My goodness, what is going on here?’” she said with a laugh.
Blessman has been a customer at the Hinsdale restaurant for decades, always ordering her favorite: A two-hamburger meal with extra onions, fries and usually a Diet Coke or coffee. She also has a signature way of eating it, removing everything from one patty, and placing it onto the other.
“Turning 95 really is a big deal,” said Cynthia Murillo with McDonald’s. “We all came together to make it special for her. One of my co-workers baked the cake. Charmaine is amazing.”
“Everyone is grinning at me, how can I not feel good?” Blessman said. “I loved my husband and wish he could be here with us. We had 62 years together.”
Her family has another birthday celebration planned for Saturday.
