I’m not going to dwell on last night’s game too much. The Blackhawks hopped on a plane back to New York for a Friday night tilt at Madison Square Garden, so let’s all take Bill Belichick’s advice and be “on to the next.” The Blackhawks put out a strong enough effort at the Islanders on Tuesday that the Flyers weren’t going to take them for granted. The Flyers starting strong was only compounded by the Blackhawks… not starting at all. Thus, a 5-1 loss. On to the Rangers.
What I do want to start with on this fine Friday morning is a thought about last night’s lineup. Even when the dynasty teams were starting their run, I cannot think of another time in the last 40 years that the Blackhawks ran out a lineup like they did last night that was not only as young as it is, but that was homegrown to that extent. Last night’s Blackhawks lineup included the following:
The Blackhawks' 20-man roster tonight will have an average age of 24.05 years old. It'll include 11 players 23 years old or younger.
— Scott Powers (@ByScottPowers) March 26, 2026That’s eight of the 18 skaters drafted by Kyle Davidson — in the last four drafts — and Oliver Moore is on IR. The build is happening in real time, folks. There are still going to be growing pains and mistakes and bad shifts and turnovers. Please hear (read) me say this: those need to start being fewer and further between and we need to start seeing the learning from those educational moments. But they are still going to happen, that’s just the reality of a young team.
Which makes these comments from (yes, of all people) Chris Pronger about how the Flyers are tough-love approaching the development of Matvei Michkov valuable for Blackhawks fans to consider. Because a lot of this is going to continue to be true for the Blackhawks in the coming weeks/years. And, now, we’re going to have to adjust our expectations for players as some (like Bedard, Nazar, Vlasic) are more experienced/comfortable in the NHL while others (Frondell, Boisvert) are just getting into the league and learning. Each player has their own timeline.Patience is pivotal for Matvei Michkov’s development pic.twitter.com/HQ1O6ZVoUI

— NHL (@NHL) March 26, 2026 After the morning skate, Boisvert talked about having to wait for a week to actually get into game action helped take a little of the edge off as he makes the jump to the Blackhawks from Boston University. A scary moment last night: Louis Crevier caught a skate blade up around his face area in the third period. He didn’t take a shift in the final 6:20 of regulation after the play. After the game, Bedard and head coach Jeff Blashill both said Crevier was in the room talking with his teammates and was okay. Hopefully he’s good for tonight at Madison Square Garden; the Blackhawks only have six healthy defensemen on the NHL roster right now.Crevier eats a skate blade. Not good. pic.twitter.com/NCWrJLy5Th
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) March 27, 2026 Roman Kantserov scored his second playoff goal in the KHL on Thursday. He added an assist to match his stat line from the first game of their series. Good start to his (hopefully final) KHL postseason.Tkachyov Kantserov You know the rest#GagarinCup pic.twitter.com/FVNLWAJMdb
— KHL (@khl_eng) March 26, 2026 With his team down two late in the third period, John Mustard scored his first goal of the NCAA tournament. This was his 17th of the season, which led Providence this season. Unfortunately, the Friars lost the game 5-2. We’ll now wait to see if that was Mustard’s final collegiate game.Postseason for #Blackhawks prospect John Mustard for @FriarsHockey pic.twitter.com/lE9Y0Mro5b
— Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) March 26, 2026 Adam Gajan and Minnesota-Duluth get their NCAA tournament started tonight. AJ Spellacy returned to the Windsor lineup for the first game of their first-round playoff series in the OHL last night. He picked up an assist on the Spitfires’ second goal of the night. Windsor won 4-0. Jack Pridham and Kitchener and Marek Vanacker, Parker Holmes and Brantford all get their first-round OHL playoff series started tonight. Nathan Behm and Kamloops start their postseason tonight as well. A good read here from Ben Pope on the Blackhawks new… problem? They need to figure out the third line, and how to get the most out of Ryan Donato (who’s centering that line right now). This is another reminder that Jason Dickinson made the players around him better, too. In training camp next year, we’ll probably see some combination of Moore and maybe Greene in the mix here. And Boisvert can help his case playing well in the middle down the stretch of this season.During Ryan Donato's Blackhawks tenure, he has a 51.9% scoring-chance ratio with Jason Dickinson and a 41.7% ratio without him.Dickinson's exit has now left Donato on an island on the third line. That's a hole for the Hawks that needs filling.Story: t.co/G0Ha5PfAa8
— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) March 26, 2026 Lots of contracts getting handed out to forwards in Rockford recently. The IceHogs signed forward Kevin Lombardi to a contract extension through the 2026-27 season. Earlier this week, Rockford signed forward Jamie Engelbert to a contract extension through the 2026-27 season and added Blackhawks forward prospect Jiří Felcman on a PTO for the rest of this season. Last week, the IceHogs signed forward Chase Dafoe to a two-year AHL contract through the 2026-27 season. Finally, this is pretty awesome for the Foligno brothers. The first time they’ve ever been on the same team together — even, according to Nick, when they played at home as kids.THE FOLIGNO BROS pic.twitter.com/bN3AeNInZE
