With the annual Chicago Air and Water Show still months away, many may be wondering why there were fighter jets flying over the city on Thursday.
Around 1 p.m., four military fighter jets could be seen doing a flyover on the north side of the city as a part of the celebrations to mark the Chicago Cubs’ Opening Day game against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field.
The four jets were USMC F/A-18 Hornets from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 112, according to the City of Chicago website.
Roughly 20 minutes after the flyover, the Cubs and the Nationals kicked off the home opener game.
The game is scheduled to be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network and 104.3 FM The Score.
Fighter jet fans who missed the show on Thursday should mark their calendar for the annual Air and Water Show, set to take place August 15 and 16 along the lakefront.
