ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The spring warmth we enjoyed on Thursday comes to an abrupt end by Friday morning. A strong cold front moving through will drop our temperatures from the 60s on Thursday into the 20s by Friday morning. The steady rain ends through the first part of the overnight, with clouds giving way to a mostly sunny sky on Friday afternoon. Temperatures will start off Friday in the 20s and not move much from there. We may flirt with 30, but wind chills will hold in the teens much of the day.
The weekend doesn’t start much warmer, with highs on Saturday once again in the lower 30s with a few snow showers and a brisk wind. Sunday will start our next warming trend, with highs pushing to near 50 degrees. Monday is back into the upper 50s, possibly near 60.
Next week will be extremely unsettled, with rain showers much of the week. The more questionable part of the forecast will be our temperatures. Cold air lurking north will be battling with much warmer air trying to nose in from the south. Data has been showing a colder trend for Tuesday, followed by another warm up Wednesday and Thursday. But the latest guidance is suggesting that we may skip the drop in temperatures on Tuesday and continue our climb through Wednesday. This would mean a warmer home opener for the Rochester Red Wings, but that is still very much up in the air at this point.
