Comedians Talk Art. When comedian Sammy Anzer took his friends to MoMA to look at art, his friends had some thoughts. And they expressed them, loudly, in the hushed museum gallery.
“The fake art part of me is like, hey we’re in a gallery, don’t do that,” Anzer said on his YouTube channel. “But the real art part of me is like, let’s welcome all interactions about art.”
Now Anzer’s made a routine of it, dropping by local art institutions with comedians and friends for some no-holds-barred, fine art criticism on the fly. Catch him next Wednesday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver.
The event is a live extension of Anzer’s web show of the same name, where he elicits real reactions to what’s on the walls. Anzer engages with works genuinely, avoiding a disparaging tone, but also unwilling to stifle his laughter just because the galleries around him are painted white.
Wednesday’s event at the MCA includes a comedy show in the rooftop cafe, a tour with Anzar and guest comedian Kate McLachlan and a take-home craft.
