Tim Corbin shared some unfortunate news amid Vanderbilt‘s rough start to the 2026 season. Austin Nye won’t return this year.
The Vandy head coach shared the news on Tuesday night after the Commodores’ win over Tennessee Tech.
“I’ll let a doctor talk to you about that,” Corbin said when asked about Nye, per The Tennessean. “We’ll get him back at some point, but not this year.”

While things have been up and down for the Vandy Boys, Nye was off to a strong start. He had a 0.00 ERA through 3 starts (throwing only 1 inning against Arizona on Feb. 28). In 10 innings of work, he had allowed just an unearned run on 6 hits, striking out 13 and walking only 2.
Nye was building off a standout freshman season and had been considered a top prospect for the 2027 MLB Draft. In his freshman year, Nye worked 50.2 innings, recording 58 Ks to post a 3.55 ERA and 2-1 record over 15 starts. Nye was named First Team Freshman All-America by Perfect Game.
Without Nye, Vandy will try to find a way to turn its season around. Corbin’s Commodores are 14-12 on the season and 2-4 in conference play entering a 3-game series with rival No. 21 Tennessee, beginning Friday. The series is in Nashville, and the Dores are 13-4 at home this season. They’ve struggled away from home, going 1-5 at neutral sites and 0-3 in true road games.
