McDonald’s is bringing a new kind of meal to Chicago — and with a limited-time treat.
The world’s largest hamburger chain has announced plans to release a series of “KPop Demon Hunters” meals, with fans set to decide on the Saja Boys vs. HUNTR/X battle using their taste buds. The release, set to begin on March 31, will also feature new menu items with “flavors from McDonald’s restaurants in South Korea.”
There will be a new McFlurry and collectible photocards that offer a QR code with early access to “exclusive fan content.”
“Big things happen when you bring two massive fandoms together, and this partnership was a natural fit. We found authentic ways to unite our iconic worlds — inviting HUNTR/X and Saja Boys fans into the rivalry in ways that feel true to the film and unmistakably McDonald’s,” Alyssa Buetikofer, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald’s said in a statement.
So what exactly will the new meals include?
Here’s a look:
Saja Boys Breakfast Meal
The Saja Boys meal features a “Spicy Saja McMuffin,” described as a “Sausage McMuffin with egg, topped with a peppery Spicy Saja Sauce — inspired by the fire of Gwi-Ma.”
The meal also includes hash browns and a small soft drink.
The HUNTR/X Meal
From the Golden Arches to “Golden,” the HUNTR/X Meal offers a 10-piece chicken McNuggets, soft drink and “three limited-time menu items.”
Those include “Ramyeon McShaker Fries,” described as a “spicy, umami spin: on McDonald’s traditional fries, with a soy, garlic, sesame and spice seasoning.
There’s also a sweet chili sauce called “Hunter Sauce” and a mustard sauce called a “Demon Sauce,” which has a purple color to it.
The meals will each come with collectible card packs that include a photocard and a “Derpy access card,” which will “unlock first access to exclusive content and a special reveal of the group that wins the Battle for the Fans.”
Other new menu items include a “Derpy McFlurry,” which will make its debut as a “brand-new McFlurry flavor” blending vanilla soft serve with “berry popping pearls” and a wild berry sauce.
The Netflix film, which follows two fictional K-pop bands, HUNTR/X and Saja Boys, recently took home Oscars for best animated feature and best song, making history as “Golden” became the first Kpop song to win the coveted award.
The animated blockbuster, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and released by Netflix in June, gave the streaming platform its first No. 1 box-office title when it also rolled out to theaters last year.
Its plot follows HUNTR/X members Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), who must keep demons out of the human world through their music.
The McDonald’s collaboration is the latest international introduction for the Chicago-based chain, whichmost recently launched its global Big Arch Burger in the U.S.
