ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Expect a rollercoaster ride in our temperatures over the next few days, followed up by a tight gradient in temperatures next week which will make for a highly variable forecast. This is prime springtime weather, when cold and warm airmasses battle it out – and Rochester is in the front lines.
Today we won’t see as much sun as yesterday, but it will still be nice to dodge the overcast skies that ruled the days prior. Although we start chilly in the upper 20s, we peak in the low 50s. Tomorrow our highs increase to near 60… With rain showers entering in the evening, then turning to snow overnight. Due to the relatively warmer temperatures we are not anticipating any more than an inch of accumulation for the region. The rainfall will be more notable, with a quarter to half an inch expected from north to south.
Behind the warmth and rain comes cold and sun. Friday will be similar to yesterday in that we see plenty of sunshine but it will also be colder. Highs stay in the low to mid 30s both Friday and Saturday, with cloud cover increasing to around 75% Saturday.
Next week will be a tricky forecast in terms of our temperature. A very strong gradient will set up from north to south, with Rochester finding itself right on the line between seasonably cool air and much milder air. Very small fluctuations in this stationary front will result in big swings in our temperature. If you’re keeping your eye on the Red Wings home opener forecast, hoping for that sub-50 degree weather in order to win a free ticket, don’t take it as law yet. We anticipate temperatures NEAR 50, but with this fragile a setup it’s impossible to know for sure at this time. Stay tuned for updates!
