To find someone with a true zest for life is a rare thing these days. So many of us are caught up in cynical news cycles, stressing about the many things there are to worry about. But others—those who have been around the proverbial block—know that the real secret to “winning” at life is approaching it with as much love as possible. That’s exactly who Kenny Jary, better known online to his 3.5 million TikTok followers as “Patriotic Kenny,” is at his core.
The loving Navy veteran first captured hearts when his neighbor Amanda Kline began posting videos of him in 2021 to raise money for a new electric scooter. His authentic kindness and genuine love of life earned him more than enough to purchase one. The two used an additional $20,000 to help 25 other veterans gain access to mobility scooters through his newly founded Patriotic Kenny Foundation. Over the years, fans have tuned in for a number of adventures, watching him enjoy one heartwarming moment after another.
However, on March 24, Kenny shared a more somber update with his loyal followers, announcing he had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

Though he captioned the post “the video we never wanted to make,” he took time to thank his followers for supporting him over the past several years.
“I want to thank every single one of you across the United States, across the whole world,” he said. “I just don’t have enough words for what you did for me.”

The Veteran Left His Fans With a Positive Message
“I’m not done with you yet! Because I plan on making some more videos,” he added.
In less than a day, the post racked up more than 12,000 comments from his devoted fans, all expressing their well wishes and support for the fight ahead.
“I’m actually in tears. He’s not my grandpa, but it really feels like it…” wrote one heartbroken fan.
“Patriotic Kenny, you hang in there,” encouraged another. “We’re sending all the love and power your way. My mother is in full remission after fighting stage 4 lung cancer at 82. You give it your all, and we will too. Thank you for changing our world.”
“This can NOT be happening… I’ve been watching forever,” added another. “We all love you, Kenny. Thank you for always making me smile and making me happy. I love you so much.”
As a fellow fan of Kenny’s, some of my favorite videos are his golden-retriever-like reactions to the world around him. The video where he got his first tattoo—and promptly vowed to get another—had me smiling from ear to ear. I also loved watching his mind get blown by a driverless car (honestly, I’d probably react the same way).
While Kenny is very much still with us and continuing to fight, I think it’s safe to say his legacy won’t just be what he’s done—but how he’s done it. Approaching life with that much love is genuinely admirable, and I hope I can age with as much grace and passion as Kenny has.
