7 Best ’60s Fashion Looks To Recreate in 2026, According to Celebrity Stylists

As women gained more freedom in the 20th century, their go-to styles changed so much as well. The shift from the 1950s to1960s fashion is stark. With the rise of second-wave feminism, gone were the big, poofy skirts and pumps—replaced by micro-minis and block-heeled boots. Few people personify this switch better than '60s fashion icon Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

Following her husband, John F. Kennedy's, assassination in 1963, Jackie married Greek businessman Aristotle Onassis in 1968. As she left behind her White House life (and its modest skirt suits) for time split between New York and the Greek islands, she embraced a more relaxed aesthetic complete with her infamous bug-eyed sunglasses. She wasn't the only fashion icon of the era, though. Parade consulted two celebrity stylists to learn more about the looks of the time—and to see which of these trends are starting to reappear on the runways in 2026.

Anna Khitrina has styled models like Leni Klum, Daphne Groeneveld and Maye Musk for magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Elle. Andrea Walker-Leidy is the Walker Publicity founder and president and personal brand stylist behind Look On Purpose, and she's styled on-air personalities for the NBC affiliate WDIV-TV, among others. Together, the two stylists share the standout '60s fashion trends that still make an impact even 60 years later.

In this decade, Walker-Leidy says, "self-expression becomes a part of fashion." She adds that designers started intentionally creating "for younger women rather than society wives." Due to this, a lot of the popular designs also skewed younger.

One of the biggest 1960s fashion trends was "the popularization of the mini skirt by [British designer] Mary Quant," says Khitrina.

"It was all enormously appealing to teenagers and women in their early twenties—the generation that drove the 'Youthquake' movement and shaped the decade’s style," she adds.

In addition to shorter skirts, she also highlights pantsuits as a popular trend, with designer Yves Saint Laurent debuting the 1966 ready-to-wear line filled with women's tuxedos (like the infamous Le Smoking suit), trousers and more. Plus, the '60s race to land men on the moon lent itself to a futuristic, Space Age style featuring "sculptural silhouettes, PVC, metallic fabrics and silver vinyl," Khitrina adds.

Who Were Popular 1960s Fashion Icons?

Undeniably, Jackie Kennedy (or Jackie O, as she became known following her second marriage) was one of the biggest fashion influences of this decade, says Walker-Leidy. She adds that Audrey Hepburn was another one, as was the British model Twiggy in the latter half of the decade.

Additionally, Khitrina cites French actress Catherine Deneuve as "a muse of Yves Saint Laurent" who was known for wearing "Le Smoking" as well as trench coats and minidresses.

She also names Brigitte Bardot, another French actress, as a big style icon of the time, wearing "the shortest hemlines, square sunglasses, with her signature voluminous hair."

Khitrina says that the modern runways have recently included nods to the '60s.

"For [spring /summer 2026], several collections revisited the A-line mini skirts and dresses that defined the 1960s, with variations appearing on the runways of Loewe, Burberry and Tod’s," she shares. "Paul Costelloe’s SS26 show was perhaps the most literal nod to the decade, featuring retro-inspired minidresses in pastel colors paired with classic 60s-style hairdos."

She again saw '60s trends appear on the fall/winter 2026 runways.

"Designers such as Courrèges, Sandy Liang and Hui presented more modern interpretations of the 1960s aesthetic. Vaquera was inspired by 1960s surrealism, which resulted in a collection of tops and dresses made out of some abstracted shapes," she says, adding that "the most playful take on the 1960s" was seen at Laura Andraschko's Soho Dolls show.

"[It featured] minidresses, double-breasted mini pea coats loved by Twiggy, sculptural 1960s beehives and smoky eyes," she says.
