Alabama softball defeated Louisiana-Monroe 4-1 on Tuesday, maintaining the momentum from the Crimson Tide’s top 10 series win against Arkansas over the weekend.
The Crimson Tide put two runs on the board early off a triple from infielder Ambrey Taylor in the first inning. Outfielder Ana Roman followed suit with an RBI single to end the first inning with a 3-0 cushion.
The Warhawks didn’t get on the board until the third inning, when they put up their only run with an RBI groundout.
Out of the 28 games the Crimson Tide has played so far this season, this is the 21st game in which the team’s opponent has had one or fewer total runs.
Catcher Alexis Pupillo extended Alabama’s lead back to three in the third inning with a home run, advancing the score to 4-1.
Two different freshman pitchers saw action against ULM, with Kaitlyn Pallozzi starting the game before Vic Moten came in and pitched four shutout innings in relief.
“Offensively, we weren’t very sharp, but we were very good defensively,” head coach Patrick Murphy said. “Kaitlyn gave us a great start, and then Vic came in and did a really good job in relief.”
Alabama’s pitching has been a major point of acclaim for Team 30 so far. Across the 27 games played, the Crimson Tide has only allowed a total of 99 hits across all pitchers, making for an average of 3.7 hits allowed per game. In contrast, Alabama has made off with 243 hits against its opponents, an average of 9 hits per game.
“Moving forward, we need to get back into the ‘dominate’ mindset and take advantage of our time on the field,” Murphy said.
Alabama will play again in Columbia, Missouri, on Friday against the Missouri Tigers at 5 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on SEC Network+.
