Chicago’s annual St. Patrick’s Day race, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, is set to take place this weekend.
When combined, the course for both the 8k run and 2-mile walk roughly follows the outline of a shamrock — a race design that requires many street closures to pull off.
As a result, closures will go into effect on several downtown streets for the race, set for the morning of March 22.
Some closures start before race day and will last longer than the main bulk of streets closed to make up the racecourse. While a no parking order starts at 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, on the streets impacted the race, the remaining street closures will start at 7:30 a.m. and will continue until 11:30 a.m.

Like in previous years, the Chicago Police Department will work with race officials to open streets on a “rolling pattern” as the last participants pass through the course.
“The street will reopen and traffic will return to normal as quickly as possible,” race officials said in a neighborhood notification about the street closures. “Please many any adjustments to your schedule to avoid any inconvenience.”
Race officials also said they distributed roughly 5,000 fliers along the course on Sunday, March 15, to inform the community about the event a week in advance.
