Two people have died and three others were injured after a multi-vehicle crash on the Kennedy Expressway early Sunday morning.
According to Illinois State Police, a sedan was stopped for unknown reasons in the southbound lanes of the Kennedy near Randolph Street at approximately 1:46 a.m. when it was struck by another vehicle.
The standing vehicle was occupied by four individuals, while the driver was the lone individual in the moving vehicle, police said.
Two individuals were pronounced dead after the crash, with three others taken to area hospitals.
It is unclear which vehicles the victims were in at the time of the collision.
Lanes on the southbound side of the Kennedy were closed for nearly six hours, reopening to traffic at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Illinois State Police.
