While the days when you could snag a cheeseburger or McChicken off the McDonald's dollar menu are a distant memory, the burger chain understands that times are tough and customers are looking to stay within their budget when eating out.
And since fast food has historically been considered a cheaper alternative to a sit-down restaurant, McDonald's is aiming to restore some of that value with the launch of a lower-priced menu, in hopes of driving more customers and beating out the competition in the fast food wars.
According to WSJ, McDonald's will be launching a value menu in April, which will boast items for $3 or less. Additionally, it will also be delivering some $4 breakfast meal deals.
McDonald's lost its status as a value establishment amongst customers after increasing prices due to inflation following the 2020 pandemic.
Since then, it's been aiming to restore itself as an affordable choice, with McDonald's noting that it's seeing payoff from its efforts—like the $5 meal deals previously ranging from $1 items introduced in 2025.
Currently, the $5 meal deals include the McChicken, McDouble and Daily Double, along with small fries and drink.
Now, the franchise is going a step further, with what WSJ says it's internally calling "McValue 2.0," prioritizing consumers' budgets by offering items at an even more affordable price point.
Per the outlet, the $4 meal deal for breakfast will include a McMuffin, hash brown and coffee, while the $3 and less menu will offer around-the-clock items like 4-piece chicken McNuggets.
It will replace the current McValue Menu, which offers many of these items already as a Buy one, Add one for $1.
While McDonald's seems convinced in their new strategy, over on Reddit, customers didn't seem overly impressed with the deals, as one noted, "$3 mcchicken So exciting," to which another pointed out, "Knowing damn well mcchickens were $1 until 2022."
McDonald's has been beefing up its menu in recent years, reviving Snack Wraps and adding the now-viral Big Arch burger, though that one is far from affordable, with an average cost of about $9 or $10, depending on location.
