For travelers who have long navigated the cramped quarters of the current gate-side lounges, American Airlines is officially bringing a breath of fresh air to the Texas capital.
The airline announced on March 10 that it will begin construction on a new, 12,000-square-foot Admirals Club at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)—a project that doubles the current lounge's footprint and introduces a first-of-its-kind amenity for the entire American Airlines network.
The standout feature of the new Austin location is a permanent outdoor terrace, marking the first time the carrier has integrated an open-air space into its domestic lounge circuit. Designed to overlook both the active airfield and the downtown Austin skyline, the terrace aims to capture the city's famous patio culture, providing a sanctuary for passengers to de-stress before a flight.

View this post on Instagram“As we elevate our presence in Austin, we're excited to bring a new level of comfort and hospitality to our customers,” said American's Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden. “This new Admirals Club lounge will reflect the vibrant spirit of Austin while offering the thoughtful design and premium amenities our customers expect.”
The expansion is a direct response to the rapid growth of the Austin market. Spanning the west side of the terminal, the lounge will be divided into distinct zones tailored to different traveler needs—including dedicated areas to relax, dine, work and "recharge."

Beyond the architecture, the club will feature the brand’s updated premium food and beverage program, which includes partnerships with Lavazza coffee and Champagne Bollinger.
Construction is slated to begin later in 2026 as part of the airport's larger West Gate Expansion. To ensure minimal friction for frequent flyers, American confirmed that the existing Admirals Club near Gate 22 will remain fully operational throughout the build.
While a final opening date hasn't been set, the project signals a major reinvestment in the "Silicon Hills" as the airline celebrates its centennial year.
