American Idol moved from Nashville to the Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawai’i, for the next stage in the competition on Monday night, the “Ohana Round.” During it, the Top 30 took the stage in an all-new round to perform for their own families, industry tastemakers, and their fellow hopefuls. In the end, only 20 moved forward.
Before the Top 20 were named, this season’s Platinum Tickets were awarded, and for the first time, the judges didn’t make the decision. Three were given out and one was decided by a group of industry experts (see below); the second by friends and family, the ohana; and the final one was voted on by their peers.
Jordan McCullough’s fellow Idols voted for him, the Ohana voted for Brooks, and the industry pros’ Platinum Ticket was awarded to Kyndal Inskeep.
That left 17 spots to be filled by judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. See below for their choices.
