NEW SAFETY ALERT: Bears Reportedly Signing Super Bowl LX Champion Coby Bryant

The Chicago Bears are reportedly bringing in Super Bowl-winning safety Coby Bryant to fill one of their needs in the defensive backfield.

NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero share the news:

The news of Coby Bryant’s reported signing with the Bears came shortly after CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reported (via Twitter/X) that Chicago’s football team was “eyeing” the free-agent safety. It also came after news dropped of the Bears agreeing to a deal with defensive tackle Neville Gallimore. Things apparently moved quickly, as Bryant is apparently set to join the team as a free agent.

Coby Bryant is a 26-year-old safety who turns 27 later in March. A fourth-round pick (109th overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft, Bryant has spent the last four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks as a primary starter at safety. However, this feels like a good place to mention (in brief) that Bryant has experience at both safety spots and at cornerback. That type of versatility could pay off for Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen.

Bryant is coming off a successful 2025 season. The University of Cincinnati product snatched four interceptions, collected 66 total tackles, picked up four tackles-for-loss, forced one fumble, and was credited with seven passes defended. Pro Football Focus had Bryant listed as one of its most underrated free agents, citing his 72.7 overall grade over the last two seasons with an 80.9 run-defense grade since the start of the 2024 campaign. Given Chicago’s issues defending the run, Bryant should be viewed as a welcome addition.

With that being said, I’m curious what this means for Kevin Byard III. An All-Pro in 2025, Byard has made it known that he wants to return to Chicago for a third season. However, it is possible that Coby Bryant’s signing complicates things. Or, perhaps, the Bears could pair Byard and Bryant together. Stay tuned.
