This week’s Hometown Heroes, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, are Carol Chandler and Cindi Ebert.
Chandler and Ebert were both recently recognized with Chatham County’s 6 Over 60 Award, honoring older adults who make their community a better place. They’ve both spent countless hours volunteering with CORA Food Pantry.
Chandler has been with CORA since 2022, and that’s on top of four decades of service with the North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department plus almost ten years with Chatham’s VITA Program, helping residents with their taxes. At CORA, Chandler sorts through recovered produce from grocery stores, making sure every bit of food is safe and high quality.
Ebert has been with CORA since 2017, serving in every imaginable role, including a stint serving as the board president. Ebert has made sure she understood each volunteer role so she could do whatever might be needed. She volunteers 15 hours a week in any capacity CORA needs her. Along with her work with CORA, she volunteers with Ears, Eyes, Nose, and Paws; and participates with her college alumni club. She has also gotten involved with collecting food in both her former neighborhood and her current one.
