BATH, N.Y. — A Dansville man has been charged with felony grand larceny after investigators say he took a $10,000 deposit for a home accessibility project and never completed the work.
According to New York State Police, James S. Johnson Jr. entered a contract with a homeowner in the town of Urbana, Steuben County, to build a tram or elevator system to provide wheelchair access to the lakefront property.
Investigators say the money was later spent at retail stores, gas stations and hotels, and that no materials were purchased and no work was completed on the project.
Johnson was transported from the Yates County Jail to the State Police barracks in Bath on March 4, where he was arrested and processed without incident. He was then returned to the custody of the jail.He is scheduled to appear in Town of Urbana Court on March 23.
