The Chicago Blackhawks have traded forward Nick Foligno in a deal with the Minnesota Wild, the team announced Friday.
Foligno, 38, has spent three seasons with Chicago and served as captain for the last two. He heads to Minnesota as the second Foligno on the team, joining his younger brother, forward Marcus Foligno.
“Nick’s captaincy and leadership have been instrumental in helping our young players develop both on and off the ice,” General Manager Kyle Davidson said in a statement. “He’s been an exemplary role model who has helped us set the future culture of Blackhawks hockey over the last three years. It’s bittersweet to see him go, and we wish Nick – and his wife Janelle, and their kids Milana, Landon and Hudson – the best in this special opportunity to play with his brother in Minnesota.”
Originally drafted in 2006 by the Ottawa Senators, Foligno logged his 600th career NHL point on Oct. 28 in a fitting game against the Senators. He also just scored his 250th career NHL goal on Sunday against Utah.
So far this season, Foligno has recorded 11 points in 37 contests with the Blackhawks.
As part of the trade, the Blackhawks will get future considerations.
