Oklahoma has reportedly added Missouri State as a nonconference opponents on its 2028 schedule.
FBSchedules.com was first to share that news on Friday morning. Per the report, OU will host Missouri State on Sept. 9, 2026. Missouri State is set to receive a $1.2 million payment in exchange for the game.
Oklahoma already had a full nonconference schedule for next season that includes Temple, Colorado State and Houston. Either Temple or Colorado State will presumably be replaced as SEC programs are required to play at least one power-conference opponent in nonconference action.
According to FBSchedules.com, Oklahoma would also be on the hook for a cancellation fee to Temple or Colorado State. The game against the Owls is the finale of a 3-game series that included a road trip to Temple for the Sooners in 2025.

Oklahoma and Missouri State have met once before — back in 2020 when the Bears were still at the FCS level. The Sooners won that game 48-0, which was the only nonconference game they played that season due to the pandemic.
As for the 2026 season, Oklahoma is entering the year with significant College Football Playoff aspirations. The Sooners will begin the upcoming campaign on Sept. 4 against UTEP.
