Michael Jackson Soundalike Says King of Pop Loved His Music — Where is He Now?

Sometimes, you meet a singer who sounds eerily similar to one of the greats.

In the Oscar-winning film Bohemian Rhapsody, some of Freddy Mercury's vocals were provided by Canadian musician Marc Martel due to his voice's resemblance to the late Queen frontman.

Another music sensation who's no longer with us, Michael Jackson, has a soundalike who is also alive and well — and recently provided updates about plans to release his own music this year, years after being discovered for his vocal similarities.

“It’s exciting. I had a feeling that I would get another chance," Jackson dead ringer Alfonzo Jonestold Rolling Stone in an interview article published Thursday, March 5. "I didn’t know what year, what time, but I had a feeling. That’s why I never gave up.”

The voice of Jones, now 65, still sounds light and MJ-like after four decades, the music magazine reports. He says he first met Jackson in 1978 at the Los Angeles premiere of The Wiz, a soul retelling of The Wizard of Oz starring Jackson and Diana Ross.

“I went there and just started talking to him, and he was nice. No bodyguard stopped me or nothing,” Jones told Rolling Stone. “He talked to me like we were friends.”

Decades later, releasing his own albums along the way that were no match for Jackson's, Jones was driving for Uber at one point and found himself turning interviewee for a USC he drove — once she heard his claims he once influenced the King of Pop.

"After [I met Michael in 1978] I had a record distributed by Universal come out, and the CEO of my company was friends with Michael Jackson. Michael fell in love with my music," Jones told then-USC student Sophie Sanders in an interview article published Dec. 2, 2015. "He liked my songs and he understood the songs. The single, 'Change the World,' he was excited about… and when he went to Disneyland for Captain EO [a 1986 film starring Jackson] the main song in the movie was 'We Are Here to Change the World…'"
