What About Cameron Jordan as a Bears Fit?

Cameron Jordan, who is one of the most decorated defensive linemen in NFL history and the New Orleans Saints’ all-time sack leader, is on the cusp of hitting free agency.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the 36-year-old defensive end and the Saints — the only team he has played for in his 15-year career — won’t have a deal in place before the start of free agency. Free agency looms for the first time in Jordan’s career:

Eight-time Pro-Bowl DE Cameron Jordan, who has spent his 15-year career in New Orleans and had 10.5 sacks last season, will not have a new deal in place with New Orleans by next week and now will hit free agency for the first time in his NFL career, per sources. Is Cameron Jordan a good fit for the 2026 Chicago Bears?

A member of the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team, Cameron Jordan is one of the most accomplished active players in NFL history.

Jordan’s accolades include eight Pro Bowl nods and recognition as an All-Pro (first-team in 2017, second-team in 2018 and 2019). That’s what happens when you collect 132 sacks, 248 quarterback hits, 175 tackles-for-loss, 17 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, and three interceptions (including a pick-six) in 243 games since being drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the first round (24th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. Jordan was also the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award nominee in 2017, 2021, and 2024. In other words, his reputation in the community is as good as it is on the field.

Given his accomplishments listed above and his connection to Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen, who he played for from 2015 until 2024, it would make sense for Chicago’s football team to be seen as a fit for Cameron Jordan. But the 15-year vet will have other options. After all, he is coming off a season in which he snagged 10.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, and 15 tackles-for-loss, I imagine there will be no shortage of teams currently in a Super Bowl contention window kicking the tires on bringing in Jordan.

Ultimately, I feel as if Cameron Jordan could be a good fit for the Bears in 2026. It all depends on how they allocate their cap space this offseason. Should the team swing a trade for Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby, then I don’t think Jordan would be a target for Chicago. But if the team allocates significant cap space to signing center Tyler Linderbaum, then perhaps Jordan makes more sense as a fit. It could get more complex than that based on what Chicago does this offseason, but we can cross that bridge when we get to it at a later time and date.

CBS Sports lists the Bears, Bengals, Cowboys, 49ers, and Chargers as logical fits for Cameron Jordan. So it’s not as if we are alone in connecting the dots when it comes to Jordan and the Bears.

In the end, where he lands after the game of free agency musical chairs stops will be something to monitor next week. And while I can’t rule out a return to the Saints, that it has gotten to this point of the offseason without the two sides reaching a deal makes me feel like a 16th season in New Orleans is a long shot. However, because we don’t see players start and end their careers with the same team often anymore, there is a part of me that is rooting for that to happen here.
