We will update this post with details on what the Bears are getting back in a DJ Moore trade. As it stands right now, the biggest note is that the move clears $16.5 million in cap space. It comes with a $12 million dead money hit. But that isn’t as big of a deal when the trade (once finalized) will officially get Chicago under the cap.
Moore, acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers back in March 2023, had a solid three-year run with the Bears. He caught 244 passes, racked up 3,012 receiving yards, hauled in 21 receiving scores, added a rushing touchdown, and even threw his first career touchdown pass last season. But after NFL Draft classes brought in Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Colston Loveland, Moore’s target share diminished. And while he was still productive, it was apparent that he was no longer going to be WR1. Once he lands in Buffalo, Moore will get an opportunity to reclaim that title while catching passes from Josh Allen. All things considered, that is a nice landing spot.
Even though DJ Moore is on his way out of town, he will always be fondly remembered for his time in Chicago for cementing himself as a Packers slayer. Catching two game-winning touchdowns against Green Bay — including one that eliminated the rivals from Wisconsin from the postseason — makes him a Bears legend in my eyes. Happy trails, DJ.
