Today co-anchors Jenna Bush Hager held back tears with Shienielle Jones after an emotional reunion with Savannah Guthrie for the first time since her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home.
On Thursday, March 5, Bush Hager opened the NBC morning show's fourth hour by announcing, "Savannah has come back to her home here at 30 Rock in Studio 1A."

"We got to see her this morning," she continued with a shaky voice, as Jones placed a hand on hers for moral support. "And in her perfect way, she talked to all of us, hugged every single person in this room, the crew."
Bush Hager added, "She said that, you know, she has the intention to return to the show even though it feels like the hardest thing to do. It's also her home and where she feels so loved. And she is beyond loved here."
Additionally, Bush Hager noted she isn't sure when, exactly, Savannah will return to Today.

Jones, meanwhile, explained, "This is just happening—this just in—and so Jen and I haven't had a chance to talk about it amongst each other. But what I will share with you is, when Savannah's here, you know, we've all been waiting for her, we've been wearing our pins... But it's interesting because I think I handle moments like this differently now."
Jones, whose husband Uche Ojeh died in May 2025, continued, "I'm not smiling, but I'm proud of Savannah. And I'm rooting for Savannah. And I know the strength that it would take to, even just come in here and to be amongst all of us. And so I see it as we're in this storm, and we're not out of the storm, but there's a light somewhere."
To conclude her thoughts on Savannah returning to the Today set for the first time since Nancy's disappearance, Jones said, "I don't know what's ahead of us. We don't know what's ahead of us... And for me, anytime you can take a step, I celebrate that. And so I looked at her, and I hugged her, and I'm like, 'You know what, you are here. And we love you. Everyone loves you. And whenever you are ready, we are here.'"
