ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester Prep Brooks Campus student is being honored for cleaning up litter around his neighborhood without even being asked to.
Daniel Adams, an eighth grader, is one of the recipients of the Do the Right Thing award. A city official nominated him after seeing Daniel cleaning up trash on Otis Street. He spoke about why he’s so dedicated to keeping the neighborhood clean.
“I don’t really like seeing my neighborhood dirty, a lot of trash and stuff,” Daniel said. “I want everybody to do that and change our community.”
Daniel said he’s looking to do even more to help the community and wants to become the mayor of Rochester one day. Malik Evans, Rochester’s current mayor, won the Do the Right Thing award back in 1997.
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
The Rochester Police Department has held the Do the Right Thing awards since 1995. You can learn more about nominating a student here.
