ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester student will have his artwork featured alongside pieces from students worldwide in the annual Mayors for Peace Children’s Art Competition.
Every year, hundreds of students submit original art based on the theme “What Peace Means to Me.” Only 52 children are chosen, and Rochester’s Avery Cater is among the winners. His message is “Be the light in the dark.”
“Please keep creating, please keep dreaming, and never ever ever stop being that light in the dark. Thank you Avery,” said Dr. Cassandra Wright, deputy superintendent of the Rochester City School District.
Avery, originally from Nashville, moved to Rochester last year. This marks the second consecutive year that a local student’s art has been selected for the Mayors for Peace Child Art Competition.
