Gen X fondly remembers Christina Applegateas Kelly Bundy on Married... with Children, but her recent revelations about playing the blonde bombshell teen have been more complicated than fans might expect.
Applegate recently released her memoir, You With The Sad Eyes, and she is spilling the tea on the provocative prime-time sitcom that ran from 1987 to 1997.
The 54-year-old former teen idol has shared many revelations, from who she dumped and who she dated, when she knew her marriage was a mistake, and she even dropped details on a past abusive relationship.

Given how instrumental Married... with Children was to her success, it's not surprising that she opened up about her time on the show. What is surprising is the story she told about the pressure to maintain her figure and the lengths she went to meet those expectations.
"If I was going to eat something as horrendously huge as a bagel, I would scoop it out and maybe have half of it, or half of a half," Applegate wrote in her memoir. "That would be my food intake for an entire day."

"I was bone, bone, bone. I used to joke back then that if my hip bones weren’t the first thing to enter a room, I was overweight," Applegate quipped before sharing that she "had to be skinny."
The Dead To Me star continued, saying, "I had a vision of the specific clothes I wanted her to wear, and to wear those clothes — clothes that would show if you ate something as tiny as a single grape — I had to lean even deeper into my eating disorder."
Pressure from the live studio audience didn't help either. Applegate recalled in her book a time when she walked onto the stage as Kelly while dressed in a "leather fringed jacket over a short red shirt" and just stood there while those in attendance greeted her with boisterous applause.
Despite only being 15 years old when the show premiered in 1987, Applegate's character was a "bimbo" frequently framed as a sex symbol and the butt of the show's many jokes. The inappropriateness is not lost on the Bad Moms star, who shared, "I look at all this now and cringe. The show was indeed broad and lewd, and it wouldn’t have a shot in hell of being made these days."
