One of Chicago’s biggest events has set its theme for this summer, as the city’s Pride Parade will return to the Northalsted neighborhood.
The parade, set to take place on June 28, will march through Northalsted and Lincoln Park, spanning two miles and drawing hundreds of thousands of participants and visitors to the annual spectacle.
According to organizers, the theme for this year’s event will be “Free to be Proud,” with the parade’s website explaining the meaning behind that phrase.
“(It) honors the legacy of those who paved the way while affirming our ongoing commitment to ensuring every person can live openly, authentically, and with dignity,” organizers said.
In addition to the annual parade, there will be plenty of other Pride events taking place around the city during the month of June. Chicago Pride Fest will be held in the Northalsted neighborhood on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21.
According to organizers, the event will feature live music on three different stages, along with drag shows, dance exhibitions and more than 150 food and merchandise vendors.
In addition, the “Proud to Run Chicago” 10K race will be held in the lead-up to the Pride Parade, with more information expected in coming weeks.
